Through community AWARENESS, community ACTION, and community FUNDRAISING, we seek to stop the rezoning of 124 acres of residential farmland to heavy industrial space, and the subsequent building of an asphalt plant in Tyrone Township, Michigan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Summary<\/h3>\n

In February 2021, an application was submitted to Tyrone Township requesting rezoning of 124 acres of residential farmland to M2 heavy industrial space. In addition a special land use request was made by Capital Asphalt to build a new asphalt plant, contingent upon approval of this rezone request. <\/p>\n

\n

Our team immediately took action raising awareness in the community, consulting with experts, compiling research, hiring an attorney, and establishing a collegial relationship with Township officials. Our work was to communicate with residents and with the Township about the devastating, long-lasting impact this decision could potentially have on our community. Our research included considerations for environmental impacts on air and water, ecosystems, traffic, home values, and human health. <\/p>\n

In April, 2021, the applicant for the rezone request asked the Township to put his application \u201con hold\u201d after the accompanying special land use permit fell through. This means that while the asphalt plant land use proposal was withdrawn, the application for rezoning is still pending<\/em>. At this juncture, the application for rezone can go forward to a public hearing and board vote, it can be amended, or it could be withdrawn. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Please note that the \u201cNo Rezone\u201d project, and the \u201cAction to Resist the Plant\u201d project are intricately linked. They are separate proposals that were submitted together, with different outcomes. <\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n
